POWERBOAT GUIDE DESCRIPTION: The Formula 280 Sun Sport is a deluxe day cruiser for those who want a boat long on cockpit space, handling qualities and workmanship. By any standard, the 280 is a handsome boat and her wraparound windshield and colorful hull graphics only add to her sport-boat appeal. With seating for eight, the cockpit is definitely the star attraction of the Sun Sport. Aside from the big U-shaped lounge aft (which converts into a massive sun pad), there’s a double-wide seat at the helm and a settee opposite. The on-deck galley makes a lot of sense on a boat like this, and there are many cockpit storage areas including fender storage under the settee. Lacking side decks, a walk-through windshield provides foredeck access, and the engine compartment (under the sun pad) is reached via a motorized hatch lift. Below deck, the V-shaped dinette converts into a double berth, and an enclosed head comes with a portable toilet. Among several single or twin sterndrive options, a single 310hp MerCruiser Bravo III engine will cruise the 280 Sun Sport at 21–22 knots (about 37 knots top), and twin 320hp MerCruisers cruise at 28 knots (mid 40 top).
