SUMMARY OF MEMORY: EQUIPMENT AND CONDITION

Memory is one of a number of high performance yachts built by the Hinckley Company in the

1950s and 1960s. She was built in 1968, and is the only Competition 34 that they built. She has

a full keel and a spade rudder. She has a tiller and associated tiller autopilot. Her topsides are

white Awlgrip. Her bottom is a layer of epoxy for blister protection. There is also a traditional

teak 4 step boarding ladder with mounting hardware on the starboard side at the gate. Lifelines

are duel and of stainless steel

Spars: All of her spars are painted white Awlgrip. Her boom is carbon fiber, new [n 2017. Her

dodger and then to a cam cleat. The Cunningham in the main luff is led to a cam cleat under

    the dodger.

Sails: Her main is fully battened and loose footed with two deep reefs. Reef hooks are mounted

at the gooseneck. Reefs are controlled through the boom. The mainsail is trimmed to a Harkin

roller-bearing traveler mounted on the cabin top. Traveler position is controlled by two lines,

port and starboard, led to cam cleats under the dodger.

The working jib was cut by North Sailmakers with full-length battens along the leech and

is trimmed to blocks on the cabin top and led to cockpit winches which are two-speed and self

    tailing.

Other sails: Sails include a #1 and a #2 genoas, the sheets for which can be controlled by

a single large winch in the aft of the cockpit. There is also a spinaker and an associated

    launching sock.

Ground tackle: Rochana anchor on the bow with anchor rode of chain and braided line. There is a

deck-mounted electric powered windless. There is also a 22 pound Danforth anchor stored on

    the cabin top.

Interior: New composting head installed in 2018. Propane stove with oven on gimbels with

propane stored in duel tanks in the lazarette. Forward cabin is a V-berth with separate section

which fills in the V to make a large bed. Foldable table which stores again the forward bulkhead

in the main cabin. 2 pilot berths plus 2 transom berths for a total of 6 berths.

Capacity for 70 gallons of water and 20 gallons of fuel.

gauges. Below there is a AM-FM stereo sound system, and a VHF marine radio coupled to a

hand-held controller located in te cockpit.

    MEMORY: DETAILS AND COMMENTS

Memory was built by the Henry R. Hinckley Company in the

1960s as the first boat in a class of Competition 34s. She was originally

named High Ball. No further boats in that class were ever built. She

was sold by the Hinckley Company and her first owner cruised and

raced her on Chesapeake Bay. The current owner bought her in the early

1980s. She has been raced frequently and successfully in PHRF club

    r a c e s .

In the early years, the bottom was covered with a protective

mainsail with 3 deep reefs. Sheeted to cabin top is Harkin traveler with

control lines led to the cockpit.

Jib of choice is a North blade jib size at 100 percent, with roller

furling and battens along the luff. Other jibs include #1, #2 and a

working jib. Spinnaker and associated sock for easy setting and furling.

Spinnaker pole is fitted on deck.

The galley is aft with hot and cold water and a propane stove.

There is a large ice box.
