Engine Information
General Description
- Great long range cruiser and/or Live-aboard vessel. This is a very solid and heavily built boat that can be sailed by a couple or even single handed with her split Ketch rig and Electric Roller furling main sail, roller furling mizzen and roller furling headsail. The top of her mast is 63'5" off the water and her draft is 6'5" with a solid keel, she is ICW compliant. The present owners have had her for 10 years and sailed her from Michigan to the Bahamas. The previous owners sailed her from 1984 to 2015 in the Great Lakes so most of her life was spent in fresh water. She was previously USCG Documented before the present owners registered her out of the UK. There is no problem with US registration or USCG re-documentation of the vessel since she was previously Documented.
- The present owners have maintained and done a lot of upgrades not only for their well being while cruising her but in preparation of sailing her back to England. They were unable to obtain and crew and have had to leave her here to be sold while they return to England. In having to fly back home, they were unable to take any equipment, which in turn is to a new owners benefit. All tools, sewing machine, and more are all staying with the vessel. Here is a list of some up the items they have attended to;
- Engine and transmission rebuilt in the fall of 2024 and has less than 100 hours on her.
- New standing rigging 2025
- Stripped back the hull and barrier coated with Epoxy
- Replaced all the thru-hulls
- 2025 New Rudder
- Replaced all the deck hatches
- Replaced all the coach roof windows - with this they replaced all the interior wood paneling
- Installed 800AH of Lithium batteries with 800W of solar panels and a 400W wind generator
- Installed new 12KWH generator
- New jib and asymmetric spinnaker
- Water maker
- She has been hauled out and blocked on land to be sold. The owners did decommission all systems since they will not be here but she is easily re-commissioned and launched for survey and sea trial at anytime.

Accommodations
- "Anodyne" is the Center cockpit, Short rig, solid keel version of the Irwin 52. From the cockpit one enters the Large Main Salon, Galley and Navigation station area. To port is a 55" 4K TV, Denon AV receiver, Bose 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound system, Pioneer radio, tape and multi CD player with speakers in all cabins and the cockpit (speaker output is selectable). Aft is the Navigation station with a flip-up chart table, storage shelves, navigation chair, hull side lockers and integral chart storage. Forward is a 2 drawer bureau, 5 hull side lockers. To starboard is a large love seat sofa, stool, and removable table, three lockers, book shelf, ice maker, glazed drink cabinet and 16 BTU reverse cycle AC unit. Aft is an aft facing breakfast bar that looks into the Starboard aft galley. Under the salon is the access to the engine and generator and other mechanical systems. The salon windows have been replaced as well as the Mahogany wood cabin sides. The whole interior appears to be mahogany cabinetry and bulkheads. 2 overhead hatches along with the 7 large coach roof windows make for an open and bright interior. With no built-in furniture, one can design the salon in any fashion they like. There is so much room to add additional furnishings. She has 6'6" headroom and the hull sides are staved with Teak ceiling strips.
- Her galley is to starboard and aft of the companionway. One step down from the main salon and is large enough for several onboard chefs to share food preparation. To port and aft of the companionway is the passageway to the Master Stateroom. Large storage lockers containing comprehensive set of spare parts, filters and tools. Underneath is a front loading washing/dryer and a trash compactor. House bank of Lithium batteries and Victron MPPT and Multiplus-II. The passageway shares a centerline counter with the galley on the other side.
- At the aft end of the passageway is the Master Stateroom. Spacious accommodations with an athwart-ship queen size berth (standard size spring mattress makes it easy for finding fitted sheets). Large closet starboard, hanging locker on bulkhead forward, large locker port, eight drawers, book shelves, full length mirror, L-shaped settee to port, mirrored bulkhead with 2 lockers and shelves, 2 overhead hatches, 5 portlights and new teak floor installed in 2024 round out the aft stateroom. 16K BTU reverse cycle AC unit makes for comfortable sleeping on hot nights. She has an en-suite bath with manual head, tiles counter-top with stainless steel sink, mirror, fully tiled separate tub/shower (new shower installed in 2016), three lockers and shelf storage. Portlight and overhead hatch for additional light and ventilation.
- Moving forward of the salon one will find a guest head to port with tiles counter-top, stainless steel sink, 2 lockers, tiles walls, bulkhead mirror, manual head and a separate fully tiles shower stall with seat (new shower installed in 2016).
- The crew or kids stateroom is opposite the head to starboard with over and under twin berths which can convert to a sofa during the day. Two hanging lockers, 3 drawers, four lockers and 3 storage bins, and 1 portlight. This area can be closed off from the walkway for privacy.
- The third and or guest stateroom is all the way forward with a V-berth, mirrored 3 drawer bureau, locker, hull side shelves, overhead hatch, two portlights for excellent light and ventilation. There is also an additional 6K BTU reverse cycle AC unit.
- Her center cockpit is the heart of the vessel. Very spacious with settees that are over 7' long. Owner installed lovely Teak on the floor and seats. Perfect for sleeping 'under the stars". Six coaming lockers provide plenty of storage. Her full enclosure makes this area the place to be in inclement weather. She has a large cockpit table for meals. She has a large Destroyer steering wheel with adjustable brake, Danforth compass mounted on the pedestal. Access around the boat on deck is very comfortable and secure with wide side decks and good grab holds.
- All deck hatches were replaced with custom Bofor alloy low profile hatches in 2017. The salon coach roof windows were all reglazed and the internal wood paneling was replaced in 2020. The portlights were resealed and refurbished in 2023.

A little history
- "Anodyne" is a true cruising blue water ketch that the previous owners bought in 1984 and sailed her throughout the Great Lakes. The current owners have lived on her full time in New York City and Long Island since 2014 and have cruised her extensively along the North East Coast. They have spent the last few years refurbishing and preparing her for longer term cruising. Last year they sailed south to cruise the Chesapeake and the Bahamas.
- She has returned from the Bahamas this 2025 spring and is all ready to continue cruising or to become a very comfortable home. She is well suited to remote working. All systems are operational and ready to go. the owners have now moved back to the UK and are willing to listen to offers.
