Here's a more detailed look at the Sundeer 64:

    Design and Construction:

    • Cutter Rig:
    • The cutter rig, with its multiple smaller sails, is often preferred for offshore sailing due to its manageable sail area and flexibility in different wind conditions.
    • Fin Keel:
    • The fin keel provides good maneuverability but may offer slightly less directional stability compared to a full keel.
    • Hull Material:
    • The Sundeer 64 is typically built with a fiberglass hull, which is known for its relatively low maintenance requirements.
    • Watertight Compartments:
    • The yacht is constructed with multiple watertight compartments, enhancing safety and providing peace of mind during extended voyages.
    • Protected Pilothouse:
    • The pilothouse offers a comfortable space for navigating and relaxing, especially in challenging weather conditions.
    • Moderate Displacement:
    • The Sundeer 64 has a moderate displacement, contributing to its speed and efficiency under sail.

    Performance and Capabilities:

    • Fast Under Sail:
    • The Sundeer 64 is designed for speed and efficiency under sail, with a hull that is easily driven.
    • Good Light Air Performance:
    • The easily driven hull and well-placed ballast contribute to excellent light air performance.
    • Smooth Motion:
    • The yacht is known for its smooth motion, even in challenging seas, with minimal pitching.
    • Engine Power:
    • The Yanmar engine (typically 88-140 HP) provides ample power for motoring in light winds or when needed.
    • Long-Distance Cruising:
    • The Sundeer 64 is well-equipped for long-distance cruising with features like large fuel and water tanks, a robust battery bank, and solar and water-making capabilities.

    Other Notable Features:

    • Aft Helms:
    • Some Sundeer 64 models feature aft helms, which can provide a better view and more direct feel for the boat.
    • Strong Bow Roller:
    • The bow roller is designed to handle a variety of sails, including drifters and asymmetrical chutes.
    • Well-Appointed Interior:
    • The interior of the Sundeer 64 is typically designed with comfort and functionality in mind, offering ample living space, storage, and amenities.

Owner talks about his sailing experience aboard Atla

I bought ATLA in Fort lauderdale in 20 15. And spent 6 weeks with updates .

Then sailed Teo seasons in caribean and also down to South america during the hurricaneseason. In 2017 january we started in the world Arc. A very nice experience. When arriving in Fiji we left the arc and sailed down to New Zealand . A sometimes tricky passage made easy by Atlas speed as we we left New Caledonia in November just as a low was passing by and arrived in Opua New Zealand after 5 days and 19 hours just before the next low hit. In New Zealand it was early spring . We sailed there the whole summer put the boat on the hard and made some work on the ruddershaft. Then we sailed another season down to the Marlborough straits on the South Island Also a passage where speed is often of the essence. Otherwise I have always sailed Atla conservately. as she is so easily driven there sail area is low and easily handled . I have used the asymmetrical in total three times. Atla still makes good passages .

In 2019 we left New Zealand and went back to Fiji to join the world Arc again in Vanuatu. There we had one of our fastest passages .We started in Vanuatu 24 hours after the Arc fleet. We had to wait for a download of charts. We sailed for 5 days averaging 215 miles per day with the best day at 242 miles and arrived in Mackay Australia as the third boat (of 17). After that we sailed back to the

Caribbean ariiving in the eco vid in may 2020 . Since then i hav sailed a little every year in th southern part of the Caribbean . But the sailing time no longer motivates keeping Atla so she is now for sale .
