Whileaway was built in 1970 by Will Rossiter, a Dark Harbor, Islesboro, Maine, in mid-coast Maine, a well-known wooden boat builder. Her semi-displacement hull is carvel cedar planked over steam-bent oak frames and backbone assembly. Her traditional build includes wood longitudinal stringers that provide stiffness, rabbet cuts into the keel secure the oak ribs, and the stem and transom construction strengthens the hull. Bronze screw fastened throughout. The decks are calked and painted, the cockpit is planked and painted with removable hatches to access below. Oak guard and toe rails are painted and covered by stainless steel half oval. Most deck hardware is stainless steel. Teak guard rails run along the top of the wheelhouse and cabintop, port and starboard. The superstructure is custom built with painted marine plywood and fiberglass. Two ports on each side of the cabin with one forward port. The 2 opening windows in the windshield are marine grade aluminum clad. The interior paint colors inside the boat are white below, buff and blue above. The topsides are painted white topsides, green bottom paint.
