Viking 82 Convertible Announced During 60th Anniversary

On April 1, 2024, Viking Yacht Company celebrated its 60th anniversary with a bang – announcing the all-new Viking 82 Convertible. This innovative vessel succeeds the highly successful 80 Convertible, a favorite among both customers and Viking’s own demo team.

Viking’s commitment to constant improvement is evident in the 82 Convertible.  Thanks to advancements in fiberglass technology, the 82 achieves a remarkable feat: despite being two feet longer than its predecessor, it comes in at the same weight. This translates to a boat that can incorporate more amenities without sacrificing performance.

President and CEO Pat Healey pinpointed the 82’s advanced propulsion system as a key factor,  saying “the one biggest thing that we see that is going to make this boat special is the advanced propulsion system…to give us better performance.”  Early projections are impressive, with a cruising speed of 36 knots and a top speed of 42 knots when equipped with the 2,635mhp MTU 16V2000 M96L package.

The Viking 80 will have increased space in the cockpit, going from 217 to 229 sq. ft., which allows for a larger mezzanine, more storage and more room for accessories. The cockpit and mezzanine are specifically designed to include two split-lid in-deck fishboxes, a transom live well, a Seakeeper 40, space for an ice chipper, two refrigerated boxes, and tackle storage.

The flybridge can be configured either as an open bridge, enclosed bridge, or skybridge. The open bridge design will accommodate three helm chairs, a walkaround helm console, a large forward lounge, and seating to port and starboard. The enclosed bridge layout features a centerline helm chair, two companion chairs, an l-shaped sofa, as well as an aft deck with bench seating and a separate station. A skybridge can also be added atop the enclosed bridge for owners and captains who want the best of both worlds.

Finally, the interior of the Viking 82 will be truly remarkable, with beautiful natural walnut woodwork, an open design, and a functional layout. The interior features a wraparound sofa, an entertainment center, a day head, and a large dinette. The peninsula style galley has room for three pedestal bar stools, and the galley offers two under-counter refrigerators, a freezer, a cooktop, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. There is also a forward pantry which can be converted to become a crew cabin. The lower deck includes a full beam master stateroom, a starboard side guest stateroom, a forward guest stateroom, and a pair of bunk rooms, all with private heads and showers.

Hull number one is scheduled to be completed in time for Viking’s annual dealer meeting in June and will then be on display at multiple Mid-Atlantic events, including Big Rock (Morehead City, NC), White Marlin Open (Ocean City, MD), and Pirate’s Cove (Manteo, NC).
