Viking 74C

Hull 1 to Debut at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show This Month

Following up on a surprise announcement earlier this year for the 82′ convertible, Viking Yachts has stepped it up yet again by introducing an all new ground-breaking model, this one coming in at 74 feet in length.

The top takeaway for this model is that in-depth design, research and modeling, new equipment breakthroughs and industry-leading planning will result in one of the fastest production sportfish convertibles in its class.

“The 74 Convertible follows the iconic Viking 72–a 45-knot speed demon that saw an incredible 75 hulls built and sold. The goal with this new model was to design and build a 74-footer capable of similar top-end and cruising speeds. The team–which has been working together for more than 25 years–came through big time,” says the company’s statement.

“The 72 was the fastest boat in our 60-plus-year history, and the 74 will certainly become the next speed king of the Viking fleet,” says Viking Design Manager David Wilson. “Our goal is to gain efficiency through studying a number of performance elements, including longitudinal center of gravity, hull resistance, trim angle and modifications to the running surface.”

In comparison to the first generation of the Viking 74 (which was in production from 2004-08), this new model will benefit from more available horsepower from the 2600hp 16V MTU engines, multiple hull design improvements,  and the company’s proprietary Advanced Viking Propulsion System (AVPS).

In short, the 74 will be a larger, faster upgrade to the popular and proven performance of the Viking 72. Its cockpit is about 10 inches longer and offers an abundance of space for fighting fish, as well as storage both underdeck and in the mezzanine.

The standard interior layout is four staterooms, each with an ensuite head, plus a rod and tackle room near the bow.

The walkaround helm console is centered and built onto a raised platform which provides excellent visibility and operator-friendly layout of all electronics on the bridge. As with most large Viking convertibles, it will be available in three configurations: Open, Enclosed and Sky Bridge.
